Meeting Minutes for November 9, 2009

Janet Perry called the meeting to order at 6:30 pm.  Introduction of members and guests followed the invocation.

Old Business
Carrie Poranski made a motion to accept the Treasurer’s Report for audit.  Susan Thompson seconded the motion, and the motion carried.  The Minutes for the October meeting were not available for review. 

New Business
Beth Royall moved and Laura Josefsen seconded a motion to approve the Budget as presented.  The motion carried.    Beth Royall and Charlotte Branham volunteered to find a new meeting place due to the inconsistency in food quality and service at Rico’s Grill.

Janet Perry announce that the November Board Meeting will be held on Thursday, November 12th, at the Library.  All members are invited to attend. 

Cyndi Brandt announced that Houston Area Council will host an educational seminar on Tuesday, November 17th, at 6 pm at the Sheraton Four Points entitled FUNdraising.  The deadline to RSVP is November 13th.  The dinner and meeting cost is $20.  Also, Houston Area Council is hosting an Annual Christmas Party with dinner and dancing on December 5th at 6:30 pm at the Sheraton Four Points.  Please RSVP by November 23rd.  The cost is $37.50 for a single and $75 for a couple.  Cyndi will email the evite to the membership.

Beth Royall gave a presentation about the Montgomery County Food Bank and had handouts for anyone interested in helping the food bank.  Beth is also getting a list of children from the counselors at Vogel that need Christmas food and gifts.  If you are interested in helping with either project, please contact Beth.

Penny Bradshaw, who is co-chairing our Holiday Event with Barbara Fell, announced that she will be getting a notice out to the membership with the details soon.  We will be bringing a donation for the Montgomery County Food Bank and having an ornament exchange this year.  Penny will also be sending out information about “Dinner and a Movie” for this month.

Janet Perry reported that the ABWA District II Spring Conference will be March 19 and 20, 2010 at The Woodlands Waterway Marriott.  Sheri Parrack is the Chairperson for the event.  Janet will update the membership with more information about the conference as it becomes available.

Janet Perry also announced that the 2010 National Women’s Leadership Conference will be October 28 -30, 2010 in Chattanooga, TN.

The drawing was held for the Cow Patty Square Dance Raffle.  The “Cow” drew the winning number purchased by Joyce LaPee.  Joyce won a $1,000 shopping spree.  The winning ticket was sold by Sherry Adams.

Program
Philip Fell, owner of HostCentr@l,  presented “Technology for Today”.

Adjournment
After the Birthday Raffle and Sunshine, Janet Perry led the benediction and adjourned the meeting at 8:15 pm.

There were 18 members and 5 guests present at the meeting.

  • Don’t forget to buy a raffle ticket for the infomercial's. Some of our members will give a two minute commercial to tell about their business. They will then give away a prize to whoever has the winning ticket.

  • Invitations: If you would like an invitation sent to someone for our monthly meeting, simply let Penny Bradshaw (corresponding secretary - email: pbradshaw@houston.rr.com Tel:(281.433.1821) know to whom you would like one or more sent.

  • Voice of Experience: Immediately following our monthly meetings, members of the Board will be available at the President’s table to take questions from guests, new members or existing members. If you bring a guest and cannot answer questions they may have, please stop by.

  • Houston Area Council: Meetings are held quarterly in January, April, July & October. Anyone wishing to attend may obtain information from Charlotte Branham or by logging onto the website. Website links are available to member’s business websites. Go to www.abwa-hou.org for further information.

  • Federation of Houston Professional Women: Meetings are held quarterly on the fourth Monday of the month in January, April, July and October.   • The Montgomery County Women’s Council of Organizations: For meeting information please contact Penny Bradshaw or Sue Watkins. They will be happy to give you any information on this volunteer organization.
